INFORMATION Camp Registration to start February 1, 2008 Summertime at Columbia Horse Center is a fun, active and healthy place for kids ages 8-16 to learn about and be around horses. OUR GOAL: The days are spent in a relaxed, informal atmosphere where safety and fun are experienced hand in hand with horseback riding, hands-on-workshops, trail rides, games on horseback, drill teams, and learning about the history of and care of horses. It is important to us that our kids enjoy each and every day to the fullest. The first day of each session our campers are evaluated in their riding skills and placed into appropriate riding groups. Many of our campers are first time riders, others have been involved with our lesson program already and are taking their equestrian education a step further. All our campers are instructed from the first day on safety skills around a horse. Our Horsemanship Campers have two horseback riding lessons per day, plus several hands-on-workshops covering topics such as: * Feeding * Grooming * Tacking * Proper care and cleaning of tack * Bathing and clipping * First Aid * Braiding and trimming * Leading * The horse in our history and much more. HOURS: Camp hours are 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. If you need assistance for early arrivals or late dismissals, we will be glad to help. You may drop off as early as 8:00 and pick up as late as 6:00 p.m. for an additional fee for the two week session. An additional fee will be charged if picked up after 6:00 p.m. ($10 per fifteen minutes or portion thereof). Please call the center to make arrangements. ATTIRE: Campers are most comfortable wearing shorts during the hot summer months while they are not riding. However, they must bring a pair of long pants to change into when riding. All campers must have proper riding boots or shoes with a small heel. Campers will not be permitted to ride without them. Approved riding helmets are mandatory and can be purchased at Woodland Tack Shop, 301-421-5954 at a discount. If purchased at Woodland Tack Shop and your child stops riding after camp is through, we will purchase it back from you at 50% of the cost provided it is in good condition, has not been damaged, and you have your receipt. LUNCH: Please bring a lunch for your child every day. We do have a refrigerator, but it gets very full so it is recommended that your child brings a small cooler. An afternoon energy snack is also a good idea as the kids are very active throughout the day. There is a snack machine in the lounge, too. GRADUATION: The final day of each session we will hold a performance for parents and friends of our campers. This gives our campers an opportunity to show the skills they have developed during camp. Awards are presented to each camper, and it is followed by hot dogs and soda. COST: $760.00 per 2 week session Before/After care = $110.00 for each session. *The cost is the same for Columbia residents and non-residents. The total deposit must include one-half (½) of the tuition cost for all sessions in which the camper is enrolled. The balance of the cost due and the Health Form, after deposit, is due one week prior to the first day of camp. A refund on the deposit is made only if the camper's reservation is able to be filled. There is a $25.00 non-refundable administration fee for any changes made; including session changes and cancellations.
